Session 01

Risking It All

You have a goal. You know what you want and you have a pretty good idea of how you want to get there. But now the fear creeps in there because actually going after the goal is a whole other idea all together.One of the things that we often do to make ourselves feel safe when we go after our goals is to put a lot of parameters in place. We create a lot of conditions. We try to create a huge safety net for ourselves. When we do that the Universe secretly laughs its head off in the background because it knows that if you want the goal you have to get okay with the risk of going after it.There is a lot to be gained in being willing to take risks, try new things, and go without the safety net we think we need.During this 2-hour discussion, we're going to talk about the risk in going after our goals and why we need that risk. What We're Doing

Over the course of 5 weeks, we'll be talking about the different aspects of creating a relationship with your goals or dreams.Your relationship with your goals matters because it's the thing that should be keeping you going when the going gets hard.How many things have you run away from because it got too hard or you thought you couldn't get there? How many times did you run into a block that you couldn't find your way around? Why does that happen?It's about our focus. It's about what we're choosing to focus on and connect at any given time. It's important that we focus in a way that allows us to keep going. It's important that we have a deep enough connection with what we want, that it makes the struggle worthwhile.You only give up on things that don't matter. You only give up on things you think you need to be doing. You don't give up on the things you really want to do. Those distinctions matter because they determine how you feel and where your focus goes when the problems show up.The problems are always going to be there. Life is always going to throw problems in your path. If you're looking for a clear shot, you're probably not going to find it. You have to decide you're willing to deal with the struggle too because that's the only way to get what you truly want.

The Scavenger Hunt

The journey is where you get all the tools you need to be successful with the goal you have in mind. But for most people, they don't want the uncertainty that comes with the journey. They want assurances, guarantees, and a way forward that is problem free.Life just doesn't work like that. I compare life to a scavenger hunt. The point of the journey is to go find all the tools and wisdom you need to be successful. That creates a high level of uncertainty because it means you don't know what's going to go happen next. You don't have full control and you don't like it.In this session we're going to talk about the scavenger hunt, why it's so important, and why the fear of it makes people run away from their dreams all the time.Here are some of the things we'll talk about...

  • What is the scavenger hunt?

  • Why we need to be willing to learn along the way.

  • Why we're afraid of learning new things as we go?

  • Why the unknown future is scary.

  • Why we think we need to control everything and have all the answers.

  • What we're meant to find along the way and why those things are so important to our success in the future.

Session 03

Your Focus Matters

Focus is a conscious choice. It's not a default that you just have to put up with. You can have control over your focus if you decide to take it.When you're going after a big goal or dream, your focus matters even more. Your mind will naturally put attention on the problems and make those the focus. If you do this and you don't do anything about it, you will run away from the goal. The mind will tell you that you can't do it.Understanding where to focus and how is an important part of going after big goals and dreams, so let's talk about it.Here's a list of some of things we'll discuss...

  • What to focus on and when.

  • How to shift your focus.

  • How to begin paying attention to your focus.

  • Why your focus matters.

  • Strategies for learning to manage your focus and stay out of the stories the mind wants to tell.

Session 04The Fear Of It

Fear shows up all over the place. Anytime we do something that is unknown or that the mind isn't familiar with, the fear will be there. That is how the mind operates because it is designed to protect you. Often, we allow the mind to protect us from our own dreams.When we try to do anything new the mind immediately injects fear into the situation. The thing with this type of fear is it doesn't go away until you move forward. The analogy I often us is of jumping into a cold pool. No matter how long you stand at the edge of the pool, you will not be able to get over your fear of the cold water. It only goes away when you jump in. The same is true with your goals in your own life. Let's talk about how to manage the fear we feel when we try something new.Some of the things we'll talk about in this session are:

  • There are many fears including the fear of failure, success, change, other people's opinions and not being good enough. We'll talk about each of these a little bit.

  • How to shift your focus away from the fear.

  • How to sit in the fear and do the thing anyway.

  • Why using your connection to the bigger goal as a way to manage the fear is important.

  • How to get past the hurdle of fear.

  • Learn to understand the fear and not give into it. What is the mind actually doing?

Session 05

Staying In The Game

How do we stay in the game? How do we keep going, stay motivated, and not just give up and walk away?That's the question we're going to try to answer in this final session. I'm going to offer some of the things that I've learned about sticking with seemingly elusive goals and continuing on long after others would give up.There is an immense power that comes in having a strong connection with your bigger goal. The role of your bigger goal is to motivate you to keep going when it gets hard. For most people, when things get hard they run away screaming because they worry they might not achieve their goal. Somehow we convince ourselves that it's better to walk away on our own power than it is to keep trying and never get there. But is that true? Let's talk about how to stay in the game, even when you want to give up.In this session we'll talk about...

  • Taking power from your big goal or dream.

  • Using your focus in a way that allows you to keep going regardless of what's happening.

  • Why you have to be able to stay in the room when it gets tough.

  • What I've learned from chasing my own dreams.
